Several cases of deaths and injuries were reported in Bahrain (March 7, 2012)

Several cases of deaths and injuries were reported in Bahrain throughout the last 24 hours, which could subsequently spark new waves of protests across the island.
  • Reports from March 7 indicated that a month and a half year old baby in the island of Sitrah, passed away, allegedly as a result of his mother suffocating from tear gas while she was pregnant.
  • Despite accusations by government loyalists that opposition activists are fabricating the causes of death for the aforementioned cases, the father of the child has also blamed government forces for the baby’s death.
  • A second report – which could not yet be confirmed – claims that another 78 year old woman has died following the suffocation from tear gas in the village of Abu-Saiba.
  • In a third related incident, an opposition activist, Fadhel Obaidy, has reportedly entered a coma following a direct hit of a teargas to his head in the village of Diraz.
  • Security forces raided several homes in Sitrah in the early hours of March 7 and reportedly arrested several people.
