Kuwait: Kuwait Airlines suspends additional flights (March 18, 2012)

Kuwait: Kuwait Airlines suspends additional flights for second day due to workers’ strike
The workers’ strike has left the airline scrambling to cope, as this comes after an ongoing week-old work stoppage by customs officials that has left the country with limited rations of necessities. Workers are demanding better pay and additional benefits and are said to continue striking until their demands are met. Other than the disturbances caused to airline passengers, the strike by Kuwait Airline’s employees is indicative of a broader trend, where the government faces considerable hardships with offering cradle-to-grave social care. In addition, government acquiescence to every union demand is likely to only increase the intensity and frequency of work-stoppages.
We advise all travelers with flights through KWI to contact their airline to confirm their travel plans ahead of arriving at the airport. Please allow for additional delays due the the possible congestion at the airport caused by the strike.
