Israel: ‘Lone wolf’ attack reported on Jewish resident in East Jerusalem (April 2, 2012)

The attack took place near the Nablus Gate in the Old city of Jerusalem, when a Jewish resident was hit with an axe by assailant of Arab origin. This is the second time that such an attack occurred in Jerusalem in recent weeks, when in a previous incident an Arab inhabitant stabbed an Israeli soldier on March 15. These incidents underline the ongoing tensions between Jewish and Arab residents of Jerusalem, in the face of the long lasting stalemate in the peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians. This assessment is bolstered by the continuous activity of the Israeli security forces in the West Bank, as 16 Palestinians allegedly involved in militant activity were arrested overnight.

It is advised to refrain from non-essential travel to the Old City of East Jerusalem. If you must visit this part of the city, consult Max-Security Intelligence for itinerary based consultation.
