Cyprus: Pilots end four-hour strike that caused the delay of four flights (April 5, 2012)

The four hour strike on Wednesday, lasted from 08:30 to 12:30 (local time) and was in protest of salary cuts still affecting pilots. The pay-cuts of nine percent were allowed by their union for 2011, although was allegedly not agreed upon for 2012. Sporadic strikes could delay future flights, while the government continues to negotiate with the union over solving the problem. In addition it is possible that Cyprus Airways will be sold in the near future due to their financial troubles.

Possible strikes resulting from continued grievances cannot be ruled out in the near term, and as such it is recommended to reconfirm travel itineraries when traveling to or from Larnaca or Paphos International Airports.  Read More>>
