Cyprus: Paphos International Airport extends strike, causing cancellations

Air traffic controllers extended their strike to take place for 13 additional hours beginning on Saturday evening, March 3 at 19:00 local time and ended on Sunday, March 4 at 8:00 local time. Air traffic controller originally called for strikes to take place in four hour increments on the dates of March 2, 7, 12, and 15. The recent extension is indicative of the growing frustration experienced by air traffic controllers over the ongoing wage disputes with the government brought on by planned austerity measures.

As the strike actions of air traffic controllers are becoming more unpredictable, it is advised to reconfirm travel itineraries when traveling to or from both Paphos and Larnaca airports in Cyprus. Furthermore, flight patterns may be affected throughout the eastern Mediterranean, potentially causing delays in travel to or from Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey. Read More>>
