Bahrain: Escalation in protests highly likely ahead of Formula One Grand Prix (April 12, 2012)

In addition to yesterday’s attacks against Shiite villagers with sticks and knives, tensions remain high over calls by protesters to cancel the Grand Prix, scheduled for April 20-22. Protests are also planned to take place today at 16:00 local time on Sitra Island and at 20:00 in the Karbabad area. Despite calls by motorsport chiefs to continue with the race, we assess that an escalation in violence may lead some individuals and possibly tems to cancel their participation following the volatile security conditions in the island.

Travel to Manama’s business and diplomatic districts can continue as normal, while avoiding all non-essential travel to Shiite villages outside of the capital as a basic security precaution. Read More>>
