Algeria: Public services shut down as workers declare intermittent strikes (April 12, 2012)

Due to an unresolved dispute with the government, national solidarity sector workers declared they will shut down one public service in the country for two days each week, starting yesterday, April 11. The public health care services are expected to be closed on April 16 and 17, while specialist doctors will start an open ended strike on April 15. The announcement triggered demonstrations in the capital calling for the government to accept the union’s demands.
