How to choose a Bodyguard
Ask a number of bodyguard agencies; what to look for when choosing a bodyguard, and you'll probably get different answers with every agency you turn to.
Since there is no standardization and it seems that even the experts won't agree on a universal answer to this question, we can assume that a layman in search of bodyguard services might get even more confused.
The following list made for the potential customers, in order to provide them with a few necessary guidelines that will help them to make the correct choices in what might become a very crucial decision.
The first thing a shopper for bodyguard protection services should be clear about is the task definition of the job at hand.
Points to consider:
§ Is it one on one job or a team job
§ Is it a long term or a short term engagement
§ Is it a low-key procedure or high visibility operation
§ Guarded personality profile (position, gender, age, activities, health, exposure, potential threats, acceptance / attitude to this kind of service etc.)
The following checks should be made (taking all the above in consideration):
§ Reliability – make your own background checks and if possible submit the aspiring bodyguard to psychological evaluation.
§ Criminal record – for instance; as a rule, a license to carry a firearm is a good indicator for a candidate's spotless record
§ Skills, training & working experience – check professional training, certifications, experience & references
§ Mental capacities & social skills – intelligence (properly reacting to new situations) and social skills are extremely important
§ Physical shape & appearance – do not be taken by mere muscle -mountains
§ Chemistry with the Protected VIP – take the time to check it out (especially before starting a one on one VIP Protection jobs)
§ And last but not least; professional insurance coverage – personal or through his agency
In short; choosing the right bodyguard is not a matter to be taken lightly (even if it is for show-off purposes only). A poor choice can get a VIP in a great deal of trouble even if he is not the bodyguard's direct employer)
