Ethiopian president Mulatu Teshome addresses the declaration of the state of emergency given armed resistance in Amhara

Reports indicate that during the evening hours of January 10, a grenade was hurled into the Entasol Hotel located in the Kenele 18 neighborhood of Gondar, in the Amhara Region. The incident resulted in 1 fatality and injured 4 others. The hotel was allegedly full of soccer fans at the time, and no perpetrators have been identified. At the same time, unconfirmed reports suggest that fresh security crackdowns have occurred in Gondar in recent days. In a bid to reinforce the ongoing state of emergency, the Ethiopian military has deployed reinforcements to the locales of Seraba and Chilga, located in the North Gondar Zone.

Flowers Outside Reina Nightclub Istanbul following New Year's Shooting

Reports indicate that 41 people were killed and 69 more were wounded in a shooting attack at the Reina nightclub in Istanbul’s Besiktas district during the overnight hours of December 31-January 1. Furthermore, 24 of those killed were reportedly foreigners. The incident transpired as an assailant armed with an assault rifle stormed the locale and opened fire at the crowd celebrating New Year’s Eve.

On October 13, King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand was declared dead at the age of 88 after battling with a number of medical problems for many years. Following the King’s death, the current Prime Minister, former General Prayuth Chan-Ocha, stated that Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn would ascend to the throne in accordance with the Constitution of Thailand.
