Bodyguard School
Surfing in the World Wide Web in search of a Bodyguard School you might find plenty of sites that seem to fit the title. They'll differ in size, graphics and essence yet they will all claim, in one way or another, to give you the best professional training for your money.
You probably know already that there are no freebies, that good training -courses do not come cheep and that not all promises published on the web are actually kept.
So what entity is entitled to call itself a Bodyguard School? (Aside of the official services training-centers in your country).
Unfortunately, in most of the countries I've checked there are no clear guide-lines and laws that regulate civilian bodyguard schools, hence there is no state supervised / approved curriculum. So by what measures can we evaluate a bodyguard school?
- Reputation – though not always objective it is something to go by when a school and its instructors get good ratings in the professional press for instance.
- Publicly known professionals that run and teach at a given school.
- A trusted person that knows about it / participated in one of the trainings.
- Acknowledgement by serious national / international security organizations.
- Information about its curriculum, especially if it ads up with the duration of the training (you should treat with suspicion, schools that offer a couple of days crush-courses in matters that would take at least two weeks or more to master.
- In the few places were such schools have to comply by regulations, check compliance but also check the regulations and how they are enforced in this particular country.
- And last but not least, do whatever possible to find out in advance the actual value of the certification provided by a particular bodyguard school and how much it will ad to your chances to find employment.
